Sevil
Single-channel video | 8min19sec | 2024

About a decade ago, an artwork by the artist Sevil Tunaboylu was subjected to an attack while on display in an exhibition. In Sevil, Tunaboylu recounts her experience of this censorship and the subsequent auto-censorship. Sevil highlights the all-too-familiar impact of such processes on artists and the blurred lines of reality they bring about.

Münevver Terzi, a former textile worker who migrated from Turkey, worked at several places in Amsterdam including at the NDSM-werf in the late 80s to early 90s. In this video, she retells stories about the working conditions in these textile factories and her life in the Netherlands as a first generation migrant worker. Her daughter – Kübra Terzi – in turn, recites memories of her mother’s working life during her childhood in the 90s.

ŞİFA (Hümeyra, Rengin, Maral)
Three-channel  video installation | 7min. 41 | 2020-2021

Three women – Hümeyra, Rengin, and Maral – chose songs that accompanied them throughout their losses during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic. They sang these songs in different public spaces in Amsterdam. They brought their vulnerabilities and vibrations to the streets, parks, and squares as an act of reclaiming their own space, lives and livelihoods.

Commissioned by Akademie der Künste der Welt, installed in a Bosnian Muslim Community Center in Ehrenberg, Köln.
